Lucky IrishmanSt. Patrick's Day Parade

The Suits Team likes to play as hard as we work.  Kat always enjoys the parade and taking in a little Irish Music and just having fun with her Red Headed Irish husband Dan. Danny Boy (yes he was named after the song, embraces his Irish heritage with great zeal. And who does not enjoy being Irish at least one day out of the year.

We found that About.com had it all sewed up as far as the best places to go in Atlanta to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  The following is copied from their website.

The best place in Georgia to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is admittedly Savannah, but Atlanta also knows how to put on a celebration of the green. After all, Atlanta has a sizeable Irish population, ranking 7th in the nation. The Irish even have a connection to Atlanta’s literary history, as Margaret Mitchell supposedly based Tara from “Gone with the Wind” on her Irish ancestors family estate here in Georgia. The Irish community has a long historical involvement with Atlanta politics and law enforcement/fire departments as well. So how does one celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Atlanta? With a parade, of course, and Downtown Atlanta is the place to be. The Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at noon on March 17th and features floats, bands, military units, and a whole lot more. The parade route will end at Underground Atlanta where a huge 4-day festival with great entertainment and food will take place. Expect Atlanta bars to be serving plenty of green beer and Guinness specials throughout the weekend.

In Midtown, Lucky Day 2007 at Park Tavern will keep Midtown in the Irish spirit. This popular annual event will feature a potato eating contest, a leprechaun hunt, and live bands, including headliner Jupiter Coyote. Traditional Irish green beer will be served. Tickets: $15-$30. Metro Atlanta’s largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration takes place at the Smyrna Market Village St. Patrick’s Day Festival. here will be live entertainment, Irish food, contests, and the traditional dying of the fountain green. Purchase tickets online. Gates open at 1 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day.

Get Lucky Festival 2007: March 10th from 12PM-12AM at Park Tavern. The party features green beer, live music and plenty of good times. Purchase tickets online. CRAZY 8- Special St. Patrick’s Day Edition: March 17th @ 8pm. Banned from his Leprechaun tribe for being way too tall and harboring a horrible Irish accent Exiled Leprechaun, Liam McMurphy, has just learned how to drain the good luck out of the common man and seeks revenge over the tribe that did him in. Liam has his beady eyes on the “Big Chicken” as his base for building the ultimate rainbow, the deadliest weapon known to man.

The best traditional place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Atlanta would be Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead. Fado offers traditional Irish food, live Celtic music, and is the place to watch Irish soccer action. O’Terrill’s is another great place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. A true neighborhood pub, they offer traditional Irish dishes like Irish stew, and unique desserts like brownies with Guinness ice cream.

Pub 71 is a new Irish-themed bar in Brookhaven. Enjoy a mix of Irish and Southern cuisine enjoy four bands, four bars with plenty of Irish beer and cocktails. The party starts at 11 a.m. and the first band starts at noon, so come early and stay late. Pub 71 will also be giving away coupons for Sunday brunch the following day.  For more Irish organizations and resources in Atlanta, check out the Emerald Society’s Irish Atlanta links pageSo even if you can’t make it down to Savannah, you can have plenty of fun right here in Atlanta celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
